AV Simulation Intern

Responsibilities:
The candidate will help develop simulations of smart vehicles interacting in a smart world to assist development of our autonomous vehicle projects. The position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Work closely with different Ford AV engineering teams, devising solutions to meet their needs.
  • Produce tools to enable engineers to develop and test their systems more efficiently.
  • Develop tools to help users create and manage test scenario descriptions.
  • Write code to integrate scenario description formats and features with simulations.
  • Create tools to generate variations of scenarios to test noise factors and manage the batch simulation of those variations.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related technical fields
  • One-semester or equivalent experience using Unreal Engine
  • Two years of experience programming in C++
  • Proficiency with Python
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and self-motivation/ability to work independently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong team player with record of collaboration
  • Strong problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or higher in computer science, engineering, game design, or related fields
  • Multiple years of experience developing code for Unreal Engine in C++ and Blueprint
  • Experience with simulation frameworks like CARLA, SUMO
  • Knowledge of OpenScenario and OpenDrive.
  • Experience with automated driving software stacks.
  • Skills in automated environment building from sensor scan data
  • Experience with digital asset creation in tools like Blender, Max
  • Experience building and running automated testing systems
  • Knowledge of robotic sensing systems and modeling of sensors
  • Experience optimizing performance within game engine systems
  • Knowledge of modeling actor behavior and interaction
  • Knowledge of machine learning object detection methods
  • Experience operating in a research or advanced technology setting
  • Excellent networking skills
