Ford Ion Park is seeking highly motivated candidates for positions on a Battery Cell Process Development Team. In this manufacturing engineering role, selected candidates will work actively in a laboratory setting on a diverse, cross functional team to identify manufacturing technology solutions and develop advanced processes and equipment for the production of battery cells that meet the highest standards of quality and customer happiness in the New Energy Vehicles of tomorrow.

What You'll Be Able To Do:

  • Research advanced technologies and suppliers to identify opportunities to develop capabilities for next generation Li-Ion battery electrodes
  • Engage in multi-functional teams comprised of manufacturing, product design, and research teams to represent Advanced Electrode Manufacturing to identify and develop innovative electrode coating process solutions
  • Establish and lead internal and external sophisticated research projects for the development of near term and next generation battery electrode manufacturing technologies
  • Develop new technologies for electrode coating deposition and drying
  • Collaborate with computational modelling and characterization research teams to understand physical and chemical properties of battery electrodes produced with new process methods
  • Lead manufacturing technology development and innovation projects including problem statements, encouraged outcomes, required resources and project execution plans that advance the limits in terms of process efficiency
  • Engage directly with the setup and operation of laboratory and pilot processing equipment in the execution of technology development projects
  • Engage with Purchasing to enable the procurement of new and retooled equipment with technical statements of work and the evaluation of proposals in support of advanced manufacturing projects
  • Lead simultaneous engineering and equipment delivery activities with equipment OEMs to ensure the design of manufacturing equipment and processes to satisfy project objectives
  • Develop and maintain a standard manufacturing Bill-of-Process to enable the replication of innovative battery cell manufacturing processes for future global manufacturing programs
  • Secure intellectual property
  • Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally

The Minimum Qualification We Seek:
  • B.S. Material Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • 2+ years of academic or technical industry experience in the battery field
  • 1+ years' experience with polymer coating and/or film processing methodologies

Our Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS and/or PhD in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Validated chemical laboratory skills
  • Knowledgeable in materials characterization techniques
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Strong analytical thinking, as well as problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Flexible and ability to adapt to the multifaceted working environment of a diverse team in an evolving industry
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • 5+ years hands-on academic or industry experience in battery electrode development
  • 1+ years validated experience in developing advanced electrode manufacturing processes
  • Experience in battery electrode chemistry, morphology, and materials characterization a plus
  • Solid understanding of different mixing, film deposition, and drying technologies
  • A history of publications and/or patents for record of documentation
