The Advance Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) program uses technology to solve the human problems of driving and make it safer, easier, and more enjoyable. Our Safety Electronics team designs and develops hardware, functional models, and software for best-in-class performance on features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Cross Traffic Alert, Active Park Assist and 360 Camera Systems. The ADAS Development Tools and Calibration team supports all software development activities by providing the necessary tools to generate, test and calibrate ADAS features. What you will be able to do

  • Own functional safety work for exciting features like Adaptive Cruise Control or Blue Cruise
  • Realize Ford's aspiration to be the world's most trusted company by implementing functional safety principles in everything we do
  • Lead the development and integration of Functional Safety work products on future vehicle program applications for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features.
  • Support the development of Interface specifications, FMEAs, robustness disciplines and DVP 1
  • Understand the performance requirements for the sensing system relative to the feature model to ensure operate correct sensor performance envelop for the specific vehicle application as it relates to functional safety requirements.
  • Support identification of vehicle application specific potential hazards and Safety Goals with associated Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) ratings for ADAS features.
  • Ensure Successful application of the functional safety process for ADAS features on forward model vehicle programs.
  • Understand FuSa sensor-system interactions in terms of vehicle dynamics to identify possible improvements and trade-offs
  • Identify changes needed to improve performance and meet objectives
  • Establish System level objectives and ensure system operation to meet the objectives through structured component, sub-system and system level test methodologies
  • Closely coordinate with feature development engineers to support execution of functional safety design verification plans to ensure proper feature-level performance
  • Support Sign-off of Feature Level performance per a given vehicle with respect to functional safety.
The minimum requirements we seek
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or a combination of education and equivalent experience
  • 6+ months of experience with embedded hardware and/or software design (coursework/internship/co-op experience allowed)
  • 6+ months of experience with Functional Safety related concepts (coursework/internship/co-op experience allowed)
Our preferred requirements
  • Master's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • 3+ years of experience with automotive product development
  • Experience with Engineering specification development, FMEA, DVPR, EMC and environmental testing
  • Experience with computer vision and tracking of humans or pedestrians Experience with the development of automotive sensors (e.g. cameras, radars, etc.) and ECUs
  • Experience reviewing, categorizing, and analyzing field data to determine error states/failure modes
  • Experience developing system specifications, conducting technical design reviews, working with interfacing functional organizations and verification/validation methods for ADAS features/functions Software engineering and algorithm development experience
  • Development time with languages (e.g. C, C++, Python, Matlab, etc.)
  • Developing and conducting laboratory and vehicle tests, gathering and analyzing data
