External Description: The candidate will help carry out and set the research agenda for automotive interaction design. The ideal candidate will have experience developing complex automotive systems from a Human Centered Design perspective.This position will be focused on collaborating with a diverse team of human factors and interaction design experts as they chart the future of human-machine interaction with the mobility solutions of the 21st century.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with Human-Centered Design (HCD) teams on Experiences which require Interaction Design research
  • Identify key interaction design research questions/issues from these Experiences
  • Translate the Experiences into HMI Concepts and Interactive Design Simulations
  • Establish and publish Interaction Design Principles
  • Develop iterative concepts and prototypes
  • Create interface graphics to illustrate concepts
  • Create animations to illustrate concepts
  • Create storyboards and wireframes to illustrate concepts
  • Execute Usability Studies & Customer Clinics
  • Interface with downstream partners to align on expectations and transfer of designs
Basic Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in UI Design or related field with 3+ years of experience as an automotive interaction designer or related
    OR
    Bachelor's Degree in UI Design or related field with 5+ years of experience as an automotive interaction designer or related
  • Prior instance with interaction design when design of the primary task differed from a secondary task
  • 1+ year of experience designing for Augmented Reality applications (coursework allowed)
OR
1+ year of experience with modern human-computer-interaction methods including Natural Language Understanding, Intelligent User Interfaces or Digital Assistant Technologies (coursework allowed)
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as an automotive interaction designer or related
  • Experience operating in a research or advanced technology setting
  • Proven ability to develop innovative HMIs
  • Proven track record of applying interaction tools in products brought to market
  • Excellent networking skills
  • Successful candidate should be able to demonstrate excellence in One FORD behaviors combined with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong team player with record of collaboration
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and self-motivation/ability to work independently
